So today is a day of significant numbers… not only did I turn 46, but this is the 100th HMSOTD. But who's counting, right?
Admittedly I'm getting old, but I can't remember the last time I spent an unmemorable birthday… I turned 21 in Dublin. I turned 30 in Zurich. My 40th was a huge party. There's been crab feasts, and steak, cupcakes and cake. Today was no different: a lovely dinner in the company of friends I love, and people who make me laugh. What more can you ask for. Today truly was a beautiful day — capped off with a fantastic evening.

Yep, it's U2 again. What can I say? This song lifts my spirits and as I get older it continues to impress upon me the importance of real things and the transitory and trivial nature of most other things. If you don't have it by now (46) do you really ever need it? Apart from the company of friends and family who love you is there really anything else? At the end of the day, what really matters? Most days are beautiful and should be celebrated with song and dance and laughter and love. The Happy Medium Song of the Day is “Beautiful Day” by U2. Happy birthday to me.
