There is a lot of good new Irish music these days, and it looks like I may have some time on my hands over the next few days left in March to share some of it with you. I’m gonna start with a band whose music I have not been able to get out of my head since I saw them perform in town last September at the U Street Music Hall. On tour with their debut album, Dogrel, Fontaines D.C. whipped the audience into a frenzy the likes of which I had not seen at a concert in a very long time. When I first wrote about them last October I acknowledged they are definitely not going to appeal to everyone, and in the very same breath, nominated Dogrel as my favorite album of the year. Apparently the band just wrapped up recording their second album, but travel restrictions will no doubt delay their next live appearance in Washington. In the meantime, here’s the opening track on Dogrel—a ballsy little number that clocks in under two minutes, and explosively boasts how they are bound for greatness. I couldn’t agree more. Fontaines D.C. are gonna be BIG! (Please use the comments box to share your thoughts.)
