The B-52's had a big hit with a song called “The Deadbeat Club” and now a new band from Edinburgh, Scotland has usurped the name and recorded two fine ep's worth of music. And guess what? The don't sound anything like those campy popsters from Athens, Georgia. Their website describes them as having a big, warm, honest sound. “The band makes unashamedly emotional music that acknowledges their many flaws, and gets their audience dancing, hugging, singing and drinking. The result is controlled chaos, catchy tunes, inspiration, perspiration and buckets of bleary eyed, grizzled love.” Grizzled love, eh? I dunno about that, but I do know that I have had a long-standing love affair with a number of bands hailing from Scotland, and they've always proven to be utterly entertaining when strumming a guitar or singing into a microphone, as well as completely incomprehensible when attempting to converse with the audience between songs. The Happy Medium Song of the Day is “Circa 1985” by The Dead Beat Club, and it comes from their 3-track ep, Butterflies. Let the controlled chaos begin… That's what I always say… (Please use the comments box to share your thoughts.)
