What are the odds… last Thursday night I watched a fox lope out of my neighbors driveway and trot up the street, the white tip of his tail visible in the moonlight… The very next day another fox—the size of a small dog—dashed across the street in front of my car as I drove down Seven Locks Road… Then on Monday morning, yet another fox crossed my path on Democracy Blvd. Foxes. They're everywhere!
In 1974 Mott the Hoople released a Greatest Hits collection with the ultimate lure for knucklehead fans like me… Long before there were bonus tracks, or hidden tracks, or even enhanced CD's with video, there were greatest hits collections on vinyl that included one song not to be found anywhere else. It wasn't a B-side. It wasn't an outtake. It might have been, as in this case, a British single that was never released in the US. And for that reason alone, suckers like me plunked down their hard earned paper route money on an LP just to get that one song.
The Happy Medium Song of the Day is one of those songs. With it's retro 50's rhythm, melody, and gurl-group backing vocals, this is Mott the Hoople and “Foxy Foxy.” (Please use the comments box to share your thoughts.)
