A man (or a woman) and a guitar. Nothing else. Something you just don't hear much these days. Why is that? Is it because musicians have a lot of music to play, but just don't have much to say while they're playing it? What happened to word play, poetry, and songs that strike a deep resounding chord inside of us? What happened to music you had to sit down and listen to — with a lyric sheet? Music that made a connection with your heart, your mind, your soul? — not just your hips and feet… It's hard to find anymore. Not impossible. Just difficult. Much of the music on Candle Records is "lo-fi" with as much emphasis on the words being sung, as the chords being strummed. Many of the songs are esoteric and painfully personal — but not in a debilitating way. They rely on words that magically, truthfully, unabashedly communicate the thoughts inside my head which I could never articulate as beautifully and attach them to a catchy tune as well.
There's nothing complicated about tonight's song. The music doesn't showcase virtuosity. The singer's voice isn't perfect, and there's something even slightly scratchy and underproduced about the recording. But the words… the imagery… the sentiments…
