When it comes to tracking down new music, I'd put myself in the category of “Big Game Hunter.” On the other hand, I also enjoy when the music finds me. Sometimes music finds me in the cinema when the music director / coordinator (whose job I covet) surprises me with a brilliant choice of music —old or new — that perfectly compliments the images on the screen. Sometimes music finds me when I'm watching TV. Sometimes music finds me when I'm reading. I read about music a lot. Sometimes music finds me in conversation: “you should listen to these guys, they're really good, etc.” Sometimes music finds me in a club when an unknown opening band makes itself a tough act to follow. And sometimes, best of all, music just finds me in the form of a gift. Now don't read that as a solicitation — it's just a segue. I make no claims for “discovering” today's song. That honor goes to my friend Suzanne’s daughter, Emily who has shared a lot of good music with me over the years. Today's Happy Medium Song of the Day is by a local band called The Bicycle Thieves who coincidentally, I'm leaving to see in a few minutes. I hope the concert is as good as this song: “Loser of the Year,” from the album The Second Place Confession. (Please use the comments box to share your thoughts.)
