Like Travis, another band whose time has surely come is Snow Patrol. Their last two albums, Final Straw and Eyes Open were massive — largely due to how often their music was heard not on the radio, but on television. Yet despite heavy touring and releasing a critically acclaimed album every two years, the band’s latest release, A Hundred Million Suns snuck out last month with very little fanfare indeed. Back in the day, Snow Patrol is the kind of band that radio station disc jockeys would be drooling over in anticipation of new material being released. They’d build the excitement and hype… and then they’d play the new music constantly. They’d give away tickets to see the band live in concert, and the first five callers would get a copy of the cd before it was available in the stores. But nobody’s really playing Snow Patrol like that now. Satellite radio has far too many fish to fry to truly build a groundswell for one band — let alone more than one band…
The Happy Medium Song of the Day is “Take Back the City” by Snow Patrol. It didn’t grab me immediately like past material, but it’s growing on me, and since I operate my own personal radio station I intend to play it over and over again until I know every word, every beat, and every guitar lick.
Signing off… this is Happy Medium Radio just to the left of nowhere on your dial.
