My final installment for "Import Week" comes from Virgin Recording artist Robert Wyatt. Wyatt was Virgin recording artist for a long time as well as a key player in the same fascinating, avant-garde Canterbury music scene that was home to influential bands like The Soft Machine, Caravan, Kevin Ayers, Hatfield and the North, etc. An enigmatic, now wheelchair-bound character who still records with the likes of Bork and David Gilmour from Pink Floyd, Wyatt mostly records oddly disjointed music that is part jazz, part fusion, part psychedelia, part rock, part pop, part poetry and anything but predictable or commercially viable. Except for, perhaps, his unique cover of “I'm a Believer” which made it into the top twenty on the UK charts in 1974. The Happy Medium Song of the Day comes from the flip side of that single and it's called “Yesterday Man.” (Please use the comments box to share your thoughts.)
