This must be my lucky month. First, Chrissie Hynde and the Pretenders downtown at the 9:30 Club, and then, this Sunday, Druid Drive welcomes Amy Rigby to the neighborhood for the 2006 Backyard Concert Series. If Neko Case and Lucinda Williams happened to pop in for a beer and a game of darts on the deck I could die a happy man…I “discovered” Amy ten years ago looking for a good CD to get Lori for her birthday. That was back in the day before there were MP3's, listening stations, iPods or iTunes. That was back in the day when you had to take a chance on music and buy on impulse — or because you thought the musician on the cover was hot, and the song titles looked interesting. That was back in the day when you had to judge a "book" by its cover or you'd never hear anything new. Amy's first album, Diary of a Mod Housewife will be ten years old this year. Amazingly, I don't think there's a bum song on any of the six albums that have followed. However, you won't find today's Happy Medium Song of the Day on any of those albums. I have a special treat instead. The Happy Medium Song of the Day is a duet sung by Amy and Jules Shear on his CD, Between Us. The song is called “You Might as Well Pray.” It's gonna be a great weekend! (Please use the comments box to share your thoughts.)
