Today's song comes from one of countless singles I purchased in the mid '80's when seldom a weekend went by without a record shopping foray to Yesterday and Today or Vinyl Ink. A lot of the time I was flying by the seat of my pants on these purchases; picking up whatever had an interesting looking cover, a familiar producer's name, or the words “jangly, chiming guitars” written in miniscule script on the price sticker. I was, and always have been a sucker for jangly, chiming guitars. My friends Andy and Steve were also good musical barometers: what they purchased one week I would often buy the following week if it was still available. I don't know if it's fair to label this particular band as “one-hit-wonders,” just because I've never actually heard anything else by them other than this, one perfect, slow song. Next time you want to surprise your husband/wife or boyfriend/girlfriend, put this song on and slow-dance 'em around the living room for three minutes and ten seconds. Go on, you can spare the time. The Happy Medium Song of the Day is “Beat Girl” by The Wishing Stones and it can be found on a wonderful compilation of “jangly, chiming guitar music” called The Sound of Leamington Spa Vol. 1.
