So after kicking off my week-long tribute to Candle Records with a song by Ruck Rover, the latest newsletter from Candle arrived this morning with this note attached:
Message From Ruck Rover
“Due to chronic inactivity, Ruck Rover has decided to call it a day. It's been a very enjoyable seven years and we'd like to thank everyone for their help and support. We'd especially like to thank Chris Crouch and Danielle Atkinson at candle records. Rob will continue with his solo career as will Stanley with Fred Astereo and you'll still be able to catch the Rob and Stan infotainment spectacular. Our last show will be the final Candle concert at the Corner Hotel on sat 17th of Feb. We'd really like to catch up with you all.”
Good luck,
mikey, rob and stan. x

Isn't that an odd coincidence? Anyway… I'm whipped, and the house is a bit chilly now that January is finally deciding to act like January and our furnace appears to be broken. So I'm off to the warmth of a bed heated by 100lbs of labrador. The Happy Medium Song of the Day is a lovely little tune by one of the few women who performs as a solo artist on Candle. Her name is Jody Phillis and the song—taken from an album with a title that describes many of the performers on the Candle roster: For Lovers, Artists and Dreamers—is called “Little Sips.” (Please use the comments box to share your thoughts.)
