This song provides me with the perfect segue from St. Patrick’s Day back to music from mix-tapes made for me by other people — namely my brother Joe, who hasn’t shared nearly enough music with me over the years. This song came to me back in 1996 via a tape Joe made called Same as It Ever Was. Before I received the tape, I knew who Denis Leary was, but I had no idea that music was part of his comedy routine. A little more subtle than “Asshole” — “Traditional Irish Folk Song” is a catchy, and spot-on pastiche of the very thing the song is titled after. Thanks Joe, for introducing me to the comedic brilliance of Denis Leary, and providing the perfect HMSOD for concluding a hard-partied St. Patrick’s Day weekend… “Traditional Irish Folk Song” from the album No Cure For Cancer
