Today’s Happy Medium Song of the Day features a band that follows in the foot steps of several excellent Scottish pop bands featuring charismatic female lead vocalists. Bands like The Rezillos, AVO-8, The Flatmates, and Altered Images all helped pave the way for Roz Davies and her band Miss the Occupier. Hailing from Glasgow, the band has yet to release a full length CD, but they are frequently featured on one one of my favorite podcasts. The blurb on their MySpace page describes the band as “an indie-punk three-piece who take angular guitar riffs, fuzz them up until they’re a suitably deafening din, and set them alongside the sardonic musings of singer Roz Davies. It’s like being stomped in the face by The Fall’s stroppy younger sister, and enjoying it just a little bit too much for your own good.” Well now... and I almost picked The Fall for today’s song… interesting. Maybe tomorrow.
Miss the Occupier are a little rough around the edges, but their catchy songs exude hutzpah and charm. Their music will get your foot tapping, your head bopping, and before you know it you’ll be singing along… singing along, yeah-yeah to “Girlfriend Go Crazy,” today’s Happy Medium Song of the Day.
